One of the east coast’s favourite film experiences, the American Express Open-Air Cinema (formerly the Ben and Jerry’s Open-Air Cinema) is hitting the road.

The travelling program of film, food and booze arrives on the green at Glenelg Beach next month.

Sydney’s Italian food purveyors Salt Meats Cheese is on board to deliver its signature truffle-pecorino pasta (tossed through a wheel of cheese), arancini and slices of wood-fired pizza. Owners Stefano de Blasi and Edoardo Perlo will also host a series of long-table dinners (with matching wine) before select screenings.

A bar will serve cocktails from Melbourne Martini as well as frosé, Aperol spritzes, 4 Pines beer and Giesen Wine. If popcorn and choc-tops are more your style, they’ll be available too.

On the screen, expect a packed program of new releases and cult classics. Highlights include Oscar favourites Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri I, Tonya, The Shape of Water, Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name; as well as the long-anticipated new Marvel flick Black Panther. For the kids, there’s Coco, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Paddington 2. Or bring the gang for a mass viewing of Dirty Dancing.

OzHarvest will present Soul Sundays on the site; the weekly event will feature trivia, live music, games and snacks. A $3 donation from every Sunday ticket sale will provide six meals to those in need.

Dogs are welcome at all screenings; you can even book them a couch and platter of “doggy donuts” courtesy of Darby’s Dog Bakery & Deli.

American Express Open-Air Cinema runs from March 15 until April 15. Tickets start at $12.50 and are available online.
