Features
If you enjoy local produce, you’re in for a treat at Bond & Lane Canteen. As the cafe resides in the suburbs, owner Lou Rodwell wanted to create a place with a real community focus. The menu reflects this philosophy, using produce provided by neighbours, sourced from local producers and grown in Bond & Lane’s outdoor courtyard.
Comprised of cafe favourites and a range of contemporary options, Rodwell’s menu appeals to people of all ages. Eggs, smashed avocado and pancakes feature as crowd-pleasers, while the shakshouka – an oven-baked egg and chorizo dish – is one of the more inventive options. A range of daily specials, homemade salads and in-house baked treats are also available, ticking the breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea boxes.
The drinks list includes pure pressed SA juices, house-made soft drinks and smoothies, as well as a selection of alcoholic drinks if it’s that kind of day. Coffee comes courtesy of local roaster 1645.
Native flowers on display are grown in a local florist’s backyard, while artists who reside in the area create the artwork hanging on the walls. Each of these elements bring the space to life, providing visitors with the happy, calm and cosy atmosphere that Rodwell works hard to achieve.
