From this Thursday, Palace Nova Eastend will merge under the one roof at its Cinema Place location.
The “Nova” building on Rundle Street, which is owned by the Maras Group, will close its three cinemas and the “Palace” building will expand its seven screens to 12.
Palace Nova marketing manager Yolanda Sulser would not comment on the reason for the Nova closure, but says the merge is “bittersweet”.
“This building has been a part of the company for quite a while, but the silver lining is people only need to go to one side of the road now, which will be a bit easier for everyone.”
While the total number of cinemas will increase, some of the screens will downsize to cater for a change in consumer habits.
“Cinemas globally are moving to a more intimate viewing experience with more personal space,” Sulser says. “So some screens are being reconfigured. They’ll be a range of sizes.”
The new Palace Nova site in Prospect is still under construction and is expected to open mid-to-late next year.
