Despite the rain, hundreds of people gathered in Hindmarsh Square this morning for the long-awaited result of the contentious marriage equality postal survey.
Armed with plastic ponchos and rainbow umbrellas, the crowd braved the downpour to hear the verdict – that 61.6 per cent of Australians voted “Yes” in favour of marriage equality. In South Australia it was higher still: 62.5 per cent of voters chose yes (topping "no" voters in every electorate).
