Antica appeared on Morphett Street midway through 2016, just two years after the original Hyde Park location. Owner Anthony Crea offers a modern Italian experience, focusing on traditional flavours with a few playful twists.

Entrees include fried mozzarella, polenta chips and platters stacked with cured meats and sharp Italian cheeses. There’s a focus on communal dishes, including the popular one-metre-long pizzas and bowls of freshly made pasta. The Neapolitan-style wood-fired oven pizzas come with a choice of three toppings from the menu and are designed to share.

This venue is much larger than its Hyde Park predecessor, but the Genesin Studio fit-out continues the contemporary Mediterranean feel. A central bar offers seating with group tables either side. Some 60,000 hand-cut bricks line the walls, mimicking the courtyards of Naples, where Crea’s family is originally from.

Serving a selection of local and imported Italian wines, the bar also offers classic cocktails with Italian influence, such as Amaretto sours and Negronis. Imported Italian beers are available in bottles too.

For dessert there’s tiramisu, and a Nutella calzone available in the ambitious one-metre serve, or regular length for those less daring.

The entire menu is available for takeaway or delivery when ordered through the Mlkman app.
