Parwana in Torrensville was Adelaide’s first real introduction to Afghan food, and Kutchi Deli Parwana continues the story.
Opened by the children of Parwana’s owners, the restaurant clearly has the influence of young blood. Where the original Parwana is vibrant but traditional, Kutchi Deli is bright, fast and modern. The pared-back menu includes meats, curries, mantu (dumplings) and bolani – an Afghani flatbread with various vegetarian fillings.
The main shame is that the skinny store is so tiny. The few indoor seats are snapped up quickly, meaning you only get a chance to soak up the decor and intricate tiling while you wait for your take-away order. There’s outdoor seating, but unlike the shared banquets at Parwana, Kutchi Deli is more of a quick in-and-out sort of place.
The accompanying drinks list is small – just your usual soft drinks and a house-made chai – but Kutchi Deli sits in the middle of the CBD, so after you’ve grabbed your meal to go, your options are endless.
