The three-tier coffee drip on The Coffee Barun’s front counter looks like it’d be better suited in a chemistry lab. But for the coffee geeks at this cafe, coffee making is both a science and an art.

It’s an unlikely spot for a specialty coffee shop. Fast food restaurants and supermarkets are the usual businesses along the busy strip. But by the way tables fill and lines form on the weekend it’s clear the Coffee Barun is no secret. Thankfully it’s actually quite relaxing once you manage to nab a table.

A large espresso machine still produces most of the orders, but cold drip, pour over and siphon brewing methods are available. Cold alternatives such as iced coffees or chocolates come piled high with ice cream.

The coffee geekery doesn’t outshine the food, which includes the Big Barun Breakfast of free-range eggs, bacon, chorizo, roma tomatoes, mushrooms and roasted sweet potato, as well as other classic menu options for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

As a bonus, the cafe roasts its own beans and you can pick up bags in store.
