Hand-made wooden benches and repurposed washing machines; ceramic coffee cups from local artisans; an entrance decorated by a bunch of school kids. Parsec is run by photographer and musician Harriet Fraser-Barbour, and her affinity for the hand-crafted and practical is the first thing you’ll notice about the place.

Besides this, the space is made up of clean lines, high ceilings and potted succulents. Sit with friends or a laptop and enjoy baked eggs with sofrito, house-made crumpets, or something sweet courtesy of chef "Saint" Louis.

All day, a vintage espresso machine churns away on coffees from Kangarilla-based roasters Dawn Patrol. In the afternoon, try a cold brew from local producers Pikes Beer, Pirate Life Brewing or Hills Cider.

Parsec is just one part of this artistic complex. Phase Space sits at the front, selling functional art objects, records and zines, while upstairs and in the basement resides Format, a collective of artists and party-throwers who were priced out of nearby Peel Street back in 2013. They present a rolling calendar of exhibitions and gigs.
