Features
The Gilles Street coffee shop formerly known as Sibling rebranded to Paddy Barry’s in 2023 under owner Jimmy Barry, a long-time Sibling barista who took over the space in 2021. Like its predecessor, Paddy Barry’s is keeping it in the family – the name is inspired by Barry’s Irish grandad, Patrick.
While it’s right on the edge of Adelaide city, Paddy feels more like a relaxed neighbourhood haunt than a brisk CBD cafe. It doubles as a second home for its many regulars – parents post school-drop-off, pre-shift hospo workers and the city’s south-end residents, among them – who you might find milling about at the takeaway bench; sipping filter brews at the outdoor tables; or downing sandwiches inside the rustic space under artworks by artist (and staff member) Pia Gynell-Jorgensen.
The concise menu also includes bagels baked on-site by former Sibling chef turned founder of Holy Mother of Bagels, Aaron Caporn, plus hearty salads (broccolini, chickpeas, roasted tomato and whipped ricotta, say) and nourishing dishes like braised beans or maple-roasted pumpkin.
Barry, who’s got a rock-solid reputation for brewing some of Adelaide’s best coffee, has also started roasting his own beans in the space behind the shop.
