The Organic Market & Cafe

The Organic Market & Cafe seems almost like it was grown from the dirt and trees of Stirling and then nurtured with years of good vibes. It’s a casual, colourful place that offers everything the environmentally conscious shopper needs.

Originally five separate buildings, the venue was transformed by owner Grahame Murray in 1988. He knocked down the walls and worked with late set designer Ian Robinson to turn it into a playful market/cafe/theatre hybrid. There’s no way you can walk through the bright orange and dark turquoise walls without feeling a bit jollier.

Murray and co-owner Bronwyn Griffiths believe the best approach is the holistic one. Almost everything about the Organic Market & Cafe is self-sustaining and efficient. Food in the cafe is made from fresh ingredients straight from the market, scraps are sent back to the producers for composting, bins only need to be emptied once a fortnight and there’s even a charging port for electric cars out front.

In the market you’ll find all the grains, seasonal veggies and fruits that you could ask for. The adjoining cafe offers bruschetta, focaccias and a rotating menu of hearty soups and mains.
