The word "vegan" can frighten some meat eaters. To this end, the team at Nagev emphasises that its menu is “plant-based”. The owners cunningly disguised this mission statement with the cafe's backwards spelling.
It’s working. The plant-based burgers and "meat" pies regularly hoodwink carnivores. As well as hearty brunches, Nagev’s trump card is its desserts, the culmination of months of experimentation by co-owner Nissa Doswell and damn-near indistinguishable from the real thing. These macaroons, cannolis, cheesecakes and vanilla slices will rival anything packed with eggs and dairy.
The one exception to the otherwise entirely animal-free spread is a concession to those who prefer a splash of dairy milk with any of the carefully selected roasts. As you might expect, though, the MILKLAB plant-based options are plentiful.
