Local Grind sits just on the edge of the River Torrens walking track. Be prepared for disoriented walkers emerging from the shrubbery in dire need of a juice.
The cafe resides alongside The Watson, providing the hotel’s guests with room service that goes beyond the usual Club Sandwich. Guests can wake up next to pork belly with hummus, pomegranate, mint, hoisin and grilled sourdough, rather than the typical continental breakfast.
There’s also the usual brekky suspects, and whatever owner and head chef Adam Rocco has recently conjured up, such as local fig with tri-colour quinoa, lentils, goat curd, lemon, orange and a poached egg. Melbourne’s Axil Coffee is pulled from a La Marzocco machine.
The interior is populated with salvaged materials, including a striking wall made of abandoned doors (complete with handles).
Rather than drinks in the help-yourself fridge, there’s a selection of salami hanging from hooks and take-home Woodside soft cheeses. Other goods are displayed in wall-mounted box shelving, including coffee beans from Proud Mary, BLK MRKT and Industry Beans, plus house-made marmalade, olive tapenade and pickled zucchini.
