When the world shut down in 2020, former Loc manager Lewis McDonald, like many of us, got really into sourdough. Now that Loc’s closed, he doubles down on sourdough at his bricks-and-mortar cafe Idle Hands. Alongside his sister Ella, he cooks loaves, sourdough cardamom buns, custard tarts and Brid-inspired dark chocolate rye cookies. Ella is also on the tools baking cakes.

You won’t find any alternative milks, matcha and chocolate-dusted cappuccinos here. The approach to coffee is for the purists. But you will find natural wine and small snacks to pair with them on weekend evenings.

Enjoy them in a warehouse-style space that’s warmed up with wooden furniture and knick-knacks. Better yet, sip a glass on a footpath stool while the sun sets.
