Features
Fred is a vibrant and deceptively massive eatery that replaced the more sombre Aldgate Providore & Cafe in late 2015. The radical renovation breathed new life into the venue, which is now decorated in bright greens, clean pine and pieces of art.
Owner Aaron Bond named this new venture after an imaginary Aldgate gentleman, Fred. It’s since gained a reputation for one of the most distinctive breakfast and lunch menus in the Adelaide Hills. Where else can you find breakfast gnocchi in tomato sugo alongside corned-beef Reubens and Bounty-flavoured macarons?
All this strikes a balance between restaurant and cafe fare, providing something best described as contemporary comfort food. Order a stacked sandwich and a house-blend coffee and you’ll see what we mean.
Even your pooch will be treated at Fred’s place; provided with a doggy biscuit and a lactose-free turmeric latte on request.
