Is there a better recipe for an uplifting morning than books and beans? Inside colourful Topham Mall, you’ll find quality words and coffee at Booknook & Bean.

A bookshelf fills a large portion of the relatively small cafe, stuffed to bursting with donated books. Browse through these at your leisure (with a DeGroot coffee in hand) or purchase a few to take home. The book sale proceeds are donated to Kiva, a non-profit organisation that provides low-interest loans to disadvantaged people around the world.

Owners Katherine and Paul Arguile believe books have incredible potential to stimulate discussion and enact change. At this Renew Adelaide graduate, the stories are just as important as the coffee.

There’s also a selection of baked goods, including Sweet Nectar raw cakes and Four Seeds salted-caramel brownies. BalanceBodies “breakfast pots” packed with bircher, cacao nibs, fruit and other healthy ingredients are also available for a boost on your way to work.
