Named after a Beatles tribute supergroup, Yellow Matter is a prime example of how Australian breweries have evolved since the mid noughties. It’s a beautiful, mid-century-style space housed inside a former council chambers building; all curtains, curves and arches. A pool table and dog-friendly policy adds to the convivial community vibes.

On tap you’ll find a line-up of accessible beers brewed on-site, from summery new-world styles such as a blackberry and blood plum sour, to a classic pilsners and kolsch. Unlike many South Australian breweries, Yellow Matter complements its beer range with spritzes, lo-fi wines and an extensive non-alcoholic list.

To eat, Yellow Matter fires out vegetarian pizzas with no-to-so traditional toppings. When Broadsheet visited, we tried one topped with shio-koji mushroom and buffalo mozzarella. Pizzas can be made gluten-free, and most can be made vegan.

Yellow Matter is run by the team behind beloved inner west cafe Karma and Crow. The cafe now shares the brewery address after relocating in 2024.
