Every brewhouse needs a home. Adelaide-born Mismatch Brewing has found its own in a handsome bluestone pub overlooking Whitmore Square (at the former site of Sparkke at the Whitmore).

The venue is far more intimate than Mismatch’s main brewery, Lot 100, which they share with other four other brands, and seats just 45 people.

Look under the hood, however, and you’ll find plenty of links to Lot 100 – including the presence of Shannon Fleming (ex- Orana) in the kitchen. The menu itself is not your average pub fare. Fleming collaborates with the on-site brewers to incorporate flavours similar to what they’re using. There might be kingfish garnished with hops, brined chicken with barley wine and bread sauce, or pipis (small clam-like shellfish) with hop cider and saltbush.

For your thirst, there are 16 taps behind the bar which include a core range of lager, session ale and pale ale; one that swings between strawberry sour in summer and dark in winter; and rotating, limited-edition products.

There’s also a dedicated guest tap that might feature Mismatch’s Lot 100 partners – including two 78 Degrees cocktails and drops from Hills Cider. Co-founder Leigh Morgan (also the co-founder of online retailer Vinomofo) has shaped the approachable wine list, which features easy-drinking wines and notable shirazes available by the glass, bottle, or as takeaways from the bottle store.
