Lady Burra Brewhouse makes the act of drinking a beer pretty special. Adelaide’s first inner-city microbrewery comes from a team including Miguel Sa and his chef mother Rosa Dantas.

Sa and Dantas have brought the Portuguese flair – the space is filled with a happy hum of people enjoying Portuguese-style slow braises, petiscos (tapas), wood-fired pizzas, sweet Portuguese tarts and chip tasting paddles, which feature potatoes cooked four different ways. Every dish on the menu somehow incorporates beer, be it as braising liquid or batter.

Behind the bar’s rear glass wall, you can see beer being freshly brewed. Four beers remain as staples on tap: a pilsner, pale ale, IPA and an Irish red ale. More experimental one-off beers are brewed in addition to this list, and you can try others in cocktails with beer-derived ingredients such as hop-sugar syrup and malt-infused vermouth. If you’re more into grapes, the bar offers an entirely South Australian wine list, featuring some interesting small-batch wineries.

The clever fit-out uses old shipping pallets as a feature wall, and repurposed wood from Moonta jetty for the bar. The ceilings are exposed, and black air conditioning ducts add to the inner-city industrial feel.
