‘Tis the season for artisan makers markets. But here’s one promising a little more.
Newly merged art gallery ACE Open will bring together some of the city’s best creators for a pre-Christmas celebration this weekend.
Pick up locally made fashion, ceramics, textiles and art from Haneen Martin, Ensemble (Good Studios, BB Shoemaker, Weft and EST), Clay by Khoa, Noun Movement Books, Nadika, Olivia Kathigitis, Karlien van Rooyen and more. Certified organic Antipodes Gin will be slinging cocktails.
“We’re throwing open the doors to celebrate ACE Open’s inaugural year with a fun and casual party, open to everyone,” says ACE Open CEO Liz Nowell. “Whether you’re a close friend of ACE or have only just heard about our gallery, it’s a great chance to come down and enjoy our art space in full flight on a sunny summer afternoon.”
A highlight will be a usable minigolf installation by artists Dominique Keeley, Henry Jock Walker and Lauren Albineri in the Lion Arts Centre Courtyard. Named Dazzle Mountain Miniature Golf Adventure Park – a nostalgic amalgamation for any millennial who grew up in Adelaide – the kitsch interactive art piece will channel “summer holidays, small-town boredom and carnival culture” in honour of Adelaide’s long-lost family fun parks.
The free party is also the last chance to see ACE exhibitions Next Matriarch and Tara O’Conal’s Filter.
There’ll also be performances from The Kasey Chambers Experience, which performs subversive drag interpretations of Kasey Chambers hits, and local musicians Thomas Capogreco and Rohan Goldsmith with an improvised response to O’Conal’s exhibition. A barbeque and raffle will round out the celebrations.
ACE Open’s Summer Party is on Saturday December 9 from 3pm to 7pm inside ACE Open and out in the Lion Arts Centre courtyard. Entry is free.
