Is the weather right for mulled wine? No. Can Adelaide still put on an enviable Christmas market? You bet. Whether you’re starting your shopping from scratch or in the middle of your hunt for the perfect gifts, here are some of Adelaide’s best Christmas markets to peruse this festive season.

Christmas Gift Market at Plant 4
If anywhere knows how to put on a market, it’s Plant 4. Expect nothing less than its usual efforts at this Christmas-dedicated iteration. There’ll be gifts that have been spun, weaved, grown and created by Adelaide makers, live acoustic music and a kid’s zone. Replenish with Plant 4’s usual food-stall suspects or unwind at the bar with local craft beer, wine, cider and cocktails.

Christmas Gift Market is on Sunday December 16 from 10am to 4pm at Plant 4.

The Mill Market at Christmas
Local makers will also lead the charge at this market hosted by The Mill. Pick up jewellery by Needs More Dragons, furniture by Robyn Wood Studio, cards and prints by Satin & Tat, floral bouquets by Adelaide Floristry School, ceramics by Sam Gold, plus more. At the building-wide event there’ll be food, coffee, live music and even live art – The Mill’s artist in residence Matthew Fortrose will be painting a mural.

The Mill Market at Christmas is on Saturday December 15 from 10am to 4pm at The Mill.

Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt
It may not snow (or even get cold) in Australia at Christmas time, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cherrypick the best bits of Europe’s Christmas markets. Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt promises exactly that. There will be more than 50 stalls selling everything from crepes, fudge and pudding to wooden Christmas ornaments and jewellery. Lobethal Bierhaus is supplying the brews; local favourites such as Squid Inc and Let Them Eat are on the snacks. Each night there’ll be carols by candlelight at 9.15pm.

Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt is on Friday December 14 to Sunday December16, 4pm to 10pm daily, at C3 Church, Hahndorf.

Adelaide Makers Christmas Market
Instagram community Handmade in Adelaide is teaming up with Etsy Adelaide to host one of the biggest craft markets of the year. Both the indoor and outdoor space at 230 Flinders Street will be filled with the work of South Australian artists, designers, crafters and makers.

Adelaide Makers Christmas Market is on Saturday December 15 from 10am to 3pm at 230 Flinders Street, Adelaide.

Brick + Mortar Christmas Shopping Nights
Norwood’s creative hub Brick + Mortar will open its doors for late-night shopping on Thursdays leading up to Christmas. You’ll be able to sift through more than 800 products by 80 local makers, including ceramics, accessories, homewares, glassware and textiles. Custom hamper boxes and free gift wrapping will be available to make your shopping experience even breezier. A barista will also be on deck throughout the evening.

Leigh Street Christmas Market
Making its return to the heart of the CBD, this one-year-old market will offer everything from jewellery and candles to hair accessories, oils, condiments and even succulents. Stop in twice – there’ll be different vendors manning the stalls each weekend. Live music and roving Christmas entertainers will be on the street while you shop.

Leigh Street Christmas Market is on Saturdays from December 1 to December 15, 1pm to 4pm weekly.

A Very POSH Christmas
This breezy market will be right next to the water in Port Adelaide. Find bright-pink Christmas trees, handcrafted jewellery, photographic prints, plus baked goods to keep you going. There’ll also be a workshop and live-art space for local artists, designers and makers to showcase the process involved in creating their wares.

A Very POSH Christmas is on Saturday December 15 and Sunday December 16, 10am to 5pm daily, at Hart’s Mill.
