From the creator of The Tit Club, expect shelves lined with voluptuous candles, boob pots of all shapes and sizes, and feminist cards and prints. Plus, jewellery, ceramics, plants and more by local creatives.

Adelaide Hills-based artist Sarah Winter loves breasts. That’s part of the reason she created The Tit Club, her brand of eco-friendly, body positive art for open-minded, intersectional feminist and equality-focused people.

Think voluptuous candles, and kinky incense burners, tit pots of various sizes, and feminist cards and prints. In the three years since she started her quirky little venture, The Tit Club has become a community. It has also grown to be more inclusive of trans and gender-diverse people.

“I started the Tit Cub to be this really inclusive, non-exclusive place because I feel like the art world is quite cliquey,” says Winter. “I also just really love tits.”

It goes deeper than aesthetics. “So much of our worth is wrapped in where our tits hang, how they look and what kind of areola we have.” She smiles. “I just want to make people feel a little bit more normal for being different.”

Last week Winter opened See Someone Studio, a place for The Tit Club and her creative peers to call home. The studio, store and workshop space in Goodwood is a place where women, queer and non-binary makers can feel safe. “It's really hard to go into a space and always be treated fairly and reasonably.”

She also wants people to have a positive retail experience. “You don't often walk into a store and the entire concept is built around a feeling. Instead, most stores are sort of designed for functionality and products.”

Not this one. Walking into See Someone Studio is like stepping into Winter’s own home. In addition to her Tit Club collection, items such as earrings, bows, ceramics, reusable coffee cups and hair-wear by local makers are scattered around the room, alongside snaking indoor plants, pre-loved books and bric a brac.

“I feel like all people sort of have a dual little thing going on in them,” says Winter. “The Tit Club is my loud, activist side but this is gentler. It feels more like home and a warm hug at the end of the day.

“My husband and I are building a tiny home in the Hills at the moment and that process of decluttering showed me the importance of the things you choose to have around you,” she continues. “I wanted everything we chose to have a story, a meaning and an intention.”

Pieces are by her favourite makers, including Nicole is Nicole, Janah James Arteries, Moist Planties, Calamity Crafts, Athera Crystals, With Piper, Coequa, Lief and Little, Studio Nikulinsky, Ochre, Nature Folk, Sweet Nola, Ash Flynn Jewellery and Grandpa Thief. “Amazing creatives that I really have loved and admired for years – all in one space.”

Winter’s path to a full-time career in the arts was gradual. She grew up in the rural town of Port Pirie and initially ignored creative urges, studying nursing instead. “I felt sad so I left, started to paint, had an exhibition and took a few years to reconnect to this side of myself that I'd pretended wasn't there.”

The opening of See Someone Studio was serendipitous. The initial plan was to launch a bricks and mortar retail space in 2023 or ’24. But when Adelaide florist Wilderstems suddenly needed someone to take over their lease, Winter inquired on a whim. “Five weeks after that I opened my door.”

The space will also host workshops and can be hired by local creatives who need a home to host them.

“I want people to know that this is a safe place for them. There's something here for everyone but if you don't like tits, it's probably not for you.”
