It feels like a lifetime since Scott Morrison mispronounced barre during a coronavirus press conference in March, yet here we are confined to our homes again for a six-day (sorry, make that three-day) “circuit breaker”. With temporary restrictions that include a closure of gyms and fitness studios, some local yoga, pilates and barre studios are offering free classes to help keep you flexible – and calm – in these wild times.

Power Living
Power Living’s four leaders in Adelaide have taken their cameras home to live-stream their classes for free, for the duration of the six-day lockdown. Upcoming classes include everything from vin and yin yoga, to vinyasa, to guided meditation.

Aleenta Barre
Fitness studio Aleenta Barre is offering a month’s worth of free online workouts via their online platform, me by Aleenta. There’s a large range of 10 to 30-minute guided workouts to choose from, including barre, pilates, yoga and HIIT programs; with varying levels of impact suiting different stages of fitness.

Adelaide Pilates Studio
Magill-based Adelaide Pilates Studio are live-streaming home workouts in lieu of their outdoor sessions. All you need is a mat, towel and water, and their teachers will do the rest. Because the sessions are live, you can ask questions if you need help with a move.

Download the Adelaide Pilates Studio app on iOS or Android, or email info@adelaidepilatesstudio.com.au to enquire about dates and connection details.

Australian School of Meditation & Yoga
The Australian School of Meditation & Yoga, whose SA location is on Chapel Street in North Adelaide, has long been uploading free yoga and meditation videos online – so there’s plenty to choose from. Most videos are organised by the body parts they target (hips, shoulders, core, back), but there are also chair yoga classes, guided deep relaxation videos and more.

Roaming Zen
St Morris barre, pilates and yoga studio Roaming Zen are offering a three-week free trial of their online barre, pilates, yoga and dance classes. Over 50 pre-recorded classes include restorative yoga practice, dance and barre fusion, and a series of 30-minute bootcamp workouts.

Outdoor exercise is banned under South Australia’s current Stay at Home Direction restrictions. If you have questions about self-isolation or coronavirus testing, check out the latest updates from SA Health.
