First Look: A New Day Spa Focusing on “Beauty From Within” Opens in the Adelaide CBD

“People are afraid to be still. They’re always rushing,” Katina Jones, founder of Selene Day Spa tells Broadsheet.
Jones wants Adelaide’s busy residents and workers to slow down and take time to rest, reflect and heal. It all begins at Selene, a new day spa Jones and her team have opened opposite the Sofitel in the CBD.
“Selene is more than a spa, it’s a sanctuary for the soul … where healing is purposeful, care is immersive and beauty is redefined as something that radiates from within,” Jones said in a statement.
The Selene team consists of Ayurvedic therapists and holistic skin specialists, as well as dermal clinicians and massage therapists.
Treatments begin with rituals and breathwork and finish with a herbal tea and a protein ball in the “Gathering Room”, which has a massive gold statue of a Medicine Buddha.
The spa’s signature two-hour, $335 package offers a rose petal bath, time in Adelaide’s first infrared cocoon pod, a hydra-facial and a full body massage. Other signature packages include lymphatic massage, “crystal grounding and alignment”, body brushing, Indian head massages, oil therapies and more.
Jones has worked in the wellness space for more than 20 years, having first been introduced to Ayurveda while travelling in India.
“What attracted me first to Ayurveda was [that] its ultimate purpose is self-realisation. It peels layers and layers of our mind, body and spirit, and we find our true selves, and that’s where true wellness begins,” she says.
There’s a seasonal wellness membership that offers set therapies aligned to the weather and “moon-guided” therapies.
If you’re not sold on Ayurveda, there are classic treatments like remedial and lymphatic massages, facials using the Epicutis range and LED therapy.
Jones believes that true relaxation must take place in a relaxing and aesthetically pleasing environment, so she tapped DC Architecture and Interior Design. The fit-out is designed to isolate you from the hustle and bustle of the CBD with warm timber, natural stone and metal accents.
