After stumbling on a 100-year-old train carriage at a junk sale, Tara and Luke Rowe saw an opportunity to create a unique stay. After a loving restoration, The Greenly Carriage is now at home on their rural property, which is part working farm, part regeneration project. It boasts the title of closest accommodation to the iconic Greenly Beach and its rock pools in Coulta, South Australia.

The “good bones” were worth the $500 the couple paid for the carriage. And while the original Oregon pine floorboards were intact, the rest of the space required a total overhaul. Now the walls are lined with timber cladding sourced or milled within 30 kilometres of the site. The space features various solar-powered mod cons, and is filled with a mix of vintage furniture and new pieces by Australian brands and makers, including Curated Spaces, Grandfather’s Axe, McMullin & Co and Sarah Ellison Studio.

Perfectly positioned to explore all that the Eyre Peninsula has to offer, the carriage allows guests to make the most of the peaceful surroundings. Fish, swim, surf and explore the endless coastline in summer, or stay in with the wood fire and a good book in colder months. Another option is to take a scenic drive to Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln. And feel free to bring your furry friend along too – the tiny two-bedder is pet-friendly.
