Sazón Espresso is one of the most popular spots for coffee and food not just in the Hills, but the entire Adelaide region. It’s a testament to the hard work and creativity of its owners, José and Oswaldo Estrella, who hail from Mexico.

Together, the pair have more than 40 years of industry experience and it shows. The Sazón menu is a well-rounded collection of traditional and contemporary dishes, such as the classic huevos rancheros, a variety of stuffed breads, quesadillas and salads, all designed by the duo. Try a proper, salt-lined margarita with dinner for authenticity.

The Estrellas’ experience in Italian restaurants gives the largely Mexican dishes a Mediterranean twist. The coffee is supplied by local roaster, Veneziano.

The menu has remained largely unchanged since opening in 2009, which is one reason people keep coming back. Visitors from as far away as Melbourne have been known to return for the great food, atmosphere and easygoing counter service they enjoyed the first time. No wonder: Sazón is a warm and colourful space with rustic brick walls decorated in bright, South American art.

Though the space is small, the cleverly organised bench seating inside and out accommodates the masses. It’s a bit of a squeeze at times, but the dedicated waiting team makes sure the vibe stays relaxed. In 2015, a second Sazón opened in the CBD, offering the same experience.
