Features
The Adelaide Hills has an international reputation for its premium cool climate wines. But until recently, there weren’t many places in the Hills where you could go for an evening and sample wines from many the region’s smaller local labels. That changed in late 2019 when Hügel Wine Bar opened its doors on the main street of Lobethal.
Hügel (“Hill” in German) focuses on local, seasonal produce and wine from smaller producers. There’s a short, changeable menu of light meals and tasting plates, designed to complement Hügel’s carefully curated wine selection. Expect glasses from the likes of Charlotte Dalton, New Era, Ngeringa and other locals.
The bar’s sophisticated yet comfortable open-plan layout keeps things intimate (there’s a maximum capacity of 20) and you’ll immediately tap into the easy, welcoming character of the place when you walk through the door.
