Mohr Fish features little other than the fruits of the sea, with a huge variety of fish served up daily by chef Hans Mohr. This place serves up seafood basics at their freshest, tastiest and simplest, like a home-cooked meal when you don’t feel like cooking. The menu features fish in every possible incarnation: bouillabaisse, fish pie, fish cakes, grilled, fried, poached and served with mash, salad or chips. This really is a restaurant for lovers of seafood.

Diners sit up around the bar and at small two seater tables in this little fish cafe eating barramundi with chilli salsa, salmon with bok choy and béarnaise sauce and kingfish with avocado, while those who’ve called ahead pop in to collect their takeaway orders.

Desserts of lemon tart, or apple pie site in a glassed display and are served with sweet whipped cream.

Given its size and popularity, there is often a wait at Mohr Fish, but things move quickly here. If you are stuck in the queue, stop into the Shakespeare Hotel next door for a beer, and when you’re table’s ready, bring your drink over with you to dinner.

It’s all quite romantic at Mohr Fish, simple but spot on.
