There’s a foodie revolution going on in Neutral Bay, from cafes and bars to fine diners. In amongst it all is the unassuming Wild Basket, a bouquet of wholly Australian specialty delights.
The shop itself is tucked away at the hushed end of Grosvenor Street and makes for a stunning surprise if you happen to stumble across it.
It’s a compact menu, but when it comprises the best products that Australia has to offer, you could hardly complain. Breads are delivered daily from Sonoma, organic macadamia and lemon myrtle yoghurt is a revelation and the coffee is Bills Beans from Orange. It makes you proud to be part of this great, productive land.
Owners Trent and Kristy Robinson – who packed in the corporate world to share their passion for Australian specialty produce – happily share opinions and advice about anything in store. The fit-out is that of a rustic provedore, with exposed brick, a wicker children’s highchair and tables groaning with treats. Delicate touches like the vintage crockery sugar bowls make the Mosman crowd right at home perched at one of the limited seats.
But the real delight comes as you load up a basket with goodies to take home and enjoy again and again.
