When the weather begins to warm up and the beach crowds slowly return back to Bondi, locals will be keen to keep tight-lipped about their nearby favourites. A charming secret is Chapter One Coffee & Wine Room, a casual cafe by day and intimate wine bar by night, located at the southern end of Campbell Parade.

At first glance, Chapter One appears to be a quaint hole in the wall, with the La Marzocco machine brewing Allpress coffee beans in the open shopfront window. Inside, the space is rustic and cosy with Tuscan-style walls, recycled timber tables, vintage mirrors, turquoise tiles and hand-picked flowers in petit glass jars.

Opening late in 2011, Chapter One serves an all-day weekend breakfast including delectable brekkie rolls filled with egg, tomato, provolone cheese, basil, baby spinach and aioli. The lunch menu features innovative fresh salads and sandwiches on Tre Pani’s organic sourdough bread, suitable for inside or to take down to the beach.

At night, feast on fresh pastas, local and imported cheeses or a charcuterie board to share, including choices of duck and orange pate or pork and pistachio terrine, while sampling the array of wines from around the world.
