igh tea has been causing quite the silver teaspoon stir around Sydney in the last few years, but it’s taken until now for coffee lovers to be invited into the rarefied atmosphere.
Chef Stefano Manfredi has teamed up with the InterContinental to create Australia’s first high coffee experience – where afternoon tea is matched to coffee rather than the typical black tea.
From the espresso spice martini – made with chilled espresso – to the gourmet sandwiches (yes, there’s smoked salmon) and pastries, the experience has all the decadence and trademarks of high tea, only the beverage of choice is coffee. Your brew can be served any which way you choose, but keep an eye out for the signature Café Corretto – a shot of espresso ‘corrected’ with a measure of grappa.
Desserts are paired to a coffee of the guest’s choice, with experienced baristas on hand to make recommendations on the best matches.
“We have been catering to Australia’s tea drinkers with our popular traditional high tea for years,” says InterContinental Sydney’s executive chef Tamas Pamer. “The time has come for coffee drinkers to be spoilt too.” It’ll certainly help coffee and tea lovers to meet each other halfway.
“As far as we know, our high coffee is the first of its kind in Australia and we’re really excited to be treating our guests to the experience.”
High coffee is available daily from June 21, 11am–4.30pm and includes a martini, Café Freddo, coffee of choice and the traditional three-tiered stand of treats.
