From its humble beginnings as a small local festival at the Balmain High School in 1991, Flickerfest has since blossomed to become Australia’s only Academy accredited and BAFTA recognised competitive International Short Film Festival.
With entries from filmmakers all over the world, Filckerfest is deemed – in international circles, no less – the leading Australian competitive short film festival and is increasingly seen as one of the main festivals on the world circuit.
The festival kicks off under the stars at our iconic Bondi Beach, screening the best short films from Australia and around the world including the much-anticipated animation, A Cautionary Tail, featuring voiceovers by Cate Blanchett, Barry Otto and David Wenham. Also on the menu is the debut screening of Aussie film The Captain, co-written and directed by film genius Nash Edgerton.
After its ten-day stint at Bondi Sydney, Flickerfest will bring its very best flicks on the festival’s annual national tour to 47 venues Australia-wide, feeding the film-hungry folk across all states and regional hotspots.
