Ska hybrid band, The English Beat are coming to Sydney. Their August 25th gig has already sold out but a second gig has been announced for the very next night. After 30 years of making music, Dave Wakeling and his reggae-punk-ska sound is coming to Australia.
The English Beat has an intense history. Created in 1977 London by a punk-enthused Wakeling, the band was originally just called The Beat. After a name-clash with an American band, the newly-minted English Beat took off, inspiring a legion of fans with their politically-minded brand of dance music.
A few short years later, The English Beat disbanded with members splitting up to make two new bands: The General Public and Fine Young Cannibals. Together again, Dave Wakeling and his band will play two massive nights in August. The first sold out quickly so get in early for tickets to the Sunday gig.
