Sydney homes are flooded with vintage art, but how much of it is homegrown? Scrap the international relics and hang a little piece of local history on your wall.

S

ydney’s walls play host to historic images of London, New York and Paris, but why are we travelling so far for a taste of history?

The inquisitive types behind Sydney creative agency Common Ventures uncovered a handful of beautiful coloured maps that show the varying craggy-edged suburbs of Sydney in the late 1800s. Originally lithographed in 1885, these reproductions are printed locally on textured, archival-grade stock (Broadsheet has the Paddington print hanging in our Sydney office – much more relevant than the Eiffel Tower).

Common Ventures has collaborated with the Sydney City Archives to make the maps available for $25 a piece through The Common Store, a portal where designers, artists, makers and scribblers can sell limited runs of their wares.

Sydney, it’s time to lay claim to your suburb.
