Brave the seven floors to the top of Curtin House and a grand view of the city and chilled drink await you at the Rooftop Bar – unquestionably one of the best spots in the city for an open-air drink. As such, you'll undoubtedly find a mixed bunch of patrons up here as news of the view, location and smoker-friendly environment has spread and the Rooftop now draws all types on a warm evening.

Naturally, the success of a session at the Rooftop Bar is subject to weather conditions as, with the exception of umbrellas and gas heaters, it isn’t protected against the elements. Restricted opening hours and menus operate during the off-season but both are expanded for the summer months; past menu highlights include a yakitori grill and sweet and savoury crepes courtesy of the team behind Concorde Crepes. During the summer months, food offerings also include the Beatbox Kitchen, serving burgers, wraps and ice cream sandwiches. During winter, Rooftop Bar has joined forced with MissChu, who delivers her famous rice paper rolls and other Vietnamese dishes from their menu.

Be warned, from December through to the end of March the Rooftop Cinema takes over (five nights a week, no screenings on Monday and Friday), and access to the roof is restricted to ticket holders after 8pm. This isn’t an entirely bad thing as the cinema screens a mostly well-picked selection of indie and cult films, art documentaries and Bill Murray features. It’s a pretty good way to spend a warm summer evening.
