The name is an ode to the founder of Brunswick, Mr Thomas Wilkinson, and the bar is a fitting addition to the landscape of the 3056 postcode. Not far from the Alderman pub, and just across from Hellenic Republic, Mr Wilkinson has given the Brunswick end of Lygon Street even more breath in its new life.
Light snacks complement a pleasing drinks menu (with well-established wine list) perfect for couples at the candlelit tables for two, or groups in larger booth spaces. The décor is admired by the design set and deservedly so – Mr Wilkinson looks great. It’s been fitted out with recycled timbers and black steel, and features rotating local artworks on the walls.
The crowd is a mix of locals craving a glass of wine, those soon to dine at Hellenic Republic or gearing up for a gig at the East Brunswick Club, as well as river-crossers who’ve heard the whisper about a class act called Wilkinson in the north.
