What’s better than Friday night beer and pizza? Beer and pizza right where the beer is brewed. Wind your way down the backstreets of Richmond to locate the goat’s head roller door, and with a quick nod to the bouncer, you’re in a world of hops, cool-rooms and shinny brewing tanks.

During the week they’re busy brewing some of Australia’s best beers (with an eye to the environment, from recycled water to push-bike enthusiasm), but Wednesday and Friday nights see the team at Mountain Goat throw open the brewery doors, with guided tours on Wednesday (6.30pm) hosted by a brewer to answer all your beery questions. Locals and beer enthusiasts swarm into the warehouse space to cosy up on student-house style couches and share boards of simple pizzas with paddles of Goat beer, or to suss out the experimental brews on offer at the Goat Bar.

The pizzas are basic, but you don’t come here just for the food. You come for the combination of pizza and that ultra fresh beer from the vats just across the way.
