Perfectly positioned on the cusp of Collingwood and East Melbourne, the Baden Powell is an unsung hero of a pub. Having undergone a full makeover a few years ago under the well-trained eye of the Forte family (also of Sydney's Shady Pines Saloon and The Baxter Inn), this inner city hotel has a real Australian feel to it. It’s somewhat hard to put your finger on just what that is exactly, but there's a spirit here that speaks the Australian patois, although it has a bit of an Italian accent.

With an extensive offering of casual bar dining, restaurant-style fine-dining, lazy afternoon beers in the courtyard or the option to hire out Zac's Private Bar, Baden Powell offers outstanding food and service with an Italian influence, reflecting the Forte family’s background. Pizzas are the highlight here, with traditional artisan techniques (such as letting the dough prove for 92 hours) making all the difference. They tend to taste even better when washed down with one of the cracking selection of local micro-brewed beers on tap.

Alongside this, Baden Powell offers 11 rooms available for short term accommodation at very reasonable prices and in close proximity to the city and Brunswick Street.

Perfect for a Sunday session, a casual yet delicious dinner out, or for a few drinks after work – washed down with small plates of Italian fare – the Baden Powell is where you, as per the Baden crest, can mangia bevi e dorm (eat, drink and sleep). What more could you need?
