The Cider House Rules

By Hayley Inch,

Brunswick Street Cider House is here to make your day come up apples.

H

ooray for cider! The popularity of this golden alcoholic beverage has been steadily growing over the past few years, so it’s about time that there was a venue devoted to the charms and intriguing variety of craft ciders that are now on offer. Enter Brunswick Street Cider House.

There are eight ciders on tap, including 2 Brothers Gypsy Pear, Cheeky Rascal, Napoleone & Co, Kelly Brothers and Old Mout Boysencider, the last of which you won’t find on tap anywhere else. Make sure to have a pint of the farmhouse cider, which is served from a French oak barrel, while there’s even more choices to be had in the bottled cider selection (tip: Old Mout feijoa cider – you can thank us later). There are also four craft beers on tap and a neat organic wine list.

The current menu takes a distinctly wintery slant. There’s a selection of soups on offer, all of which are vegan; fat burgers and chips, which are served up with all manner of sauces and seasonings. The Grazing Plate is the way to go if you’re really hungry – you can have two ‘grazing’ dishes with a soup or salad for the steal of $22. If you go with that option, make sure you include the potato and mushroom croquettes – fried, crumbed balls of creamy herbed mushrooms and fluffy potato, served with a truffle aioli that you’ll want to smuggle home with you. Team them with a mulled cider and it’s the perfect thing to keep the chills at bay.

The staff here are passionate and knowledgeable about everything cider, and are more than happy to have a chat with you about their selections and what they have planned for the space. Brunswick Street Cider House has all the potential to become an exciting hub for good drinks and complimentary food. See you there, cider lovers.
