From the crew behind Rhythm & Soul Records, small and unassuming club Two of Hearts has quietly opened in a nook of Prahran.

T

wo of Hearts sits just off Chapel Street in Prahran. The size of the place means its always cosy, the crew in attendance means its always friendly, and most importantly, it’s a prime south of the river destination for a good boogie.

Owner Greg Molinaro had clocked 17 years in the music business before opening the club, so as you would expect, Two of Hearts is all about the music. Sure, the bar provides punters with good standard drinks, but the club’s forte is atmosphere and vintage sounds.

Molinaro owned Rhythm & Soul Records on Greville Street before it closed down, so a lot of the sound gear at Two of Hearts is from the old record shop. Music nerds might take note that the club has a vintage Urei rotary mixer – not a replica but an original from the 70s – a piece of equipment used regularly at underground parties and clubs in New York’s 70s heyday, such as Studio 54 and Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage.

The equipment is put to good use at the new monthly do, 808 til Late, where a Roland TR 808 drum machine and TR 707 are played live accompanied by 808-influenced music from the DJs’ vinyl collections.

The next 808 til Late party is on Friday September 9 from 8pm. Entry is free.
