ust over a month ago, Tracey Marsich relocated her Drummond Street wine shop (aptly named Drummond Cellars) from its original digs next to Little Markov to a new space around the corner on Elgin Street, a few shops down from La Lateria and opposite Bezela Foodstore. The legal trading name is Drummond Cellars, but since they’re no longer on Drummond Street they thought they’d try a new branding strategy, installing the dazzling ‘Booze’ signage. Suffice to say, it seems to be working.

The space is small and sparse and the wine primarily comprises their own cleanskin stock from local wineries, as well as a small selection of imported wines. They also run a wholesale business supplying local restaurants with quality house wines, so they know what they’re talking about.

As they did at Drummond Street, Drummond Cellars supports local breweries and stocks a great selection of local beer and cider in the fridges.

Everything at ‘Booze’ is reasonably priced. There are few bottles over $30, so it’s not intimidating. The selection isn’t large but the upside is that you’re not spoilt for choice, which is a good thing. Bottles shops can too often be overwhelming, when all you want is nice, reasonably priced drop to share with friends over dinner.

The wine is hand selected by people who appreciate that not every night is a fancy wine night; some nights you just want to drink some.
