Shakahari is said to be one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne and can be found quietly hiding behind Lygon Street in Carlton. With a menu emphasising quality produce, the spicy, exotic range of choices on offer belie the softly hued interior, simple furnishings and attentive staff.

The predominant flavours are Indian with many a nod to Chinese and Japanese-style cooking mixed in with some Western flavours. Items such as the ‘Legend Satay’ and the avocado rolls are quite popular. The menu is changed quarterly to reflect seasonal variations in food availability and tries to source produce locally. It also boasts an award-winning wine list.

A great place to bring dining partners with specific dietary requirements, almost anyone can be catered for here. Shakahari prides itself on providing light, healthy meals that are reasonably priced. You will leave feeling well fed and distinctly healthier.
