When done well, nothing pleases more than the classic combination of pizza and beer. Thankfully, in this regard, Pizza e Birra in St Kilda is a restaurant that caters exactly to our every whim, serving up delicious wood-fired pizzas alongside an attractive beer and wine selection.
The south-of-the-border twin of restaurateur Mauro Marcucci’s highly successful Pizza e Birra in Sydney’s Surry Hills, the eatery is characterised by the same blend of traditional Italian cuisine coupled with a palatable array of boutique Australian beers (including the restaurant’s very own birra, brewed especially by Holgate Brewhouse in the Macedon Ranges) as well as local and Italian wines.
Situated on the former Termini site, Pizza e Birra is nestled right in the heart of Fitzroy Street and provides an ambient, cosy setting for indulging in the appetising pizzas on offer. Serving piping hot from the wood-fired oven with the cheese still sizzling away on thin, crispy bases, these are some top-notch pizzas.
But there are plenty of other options to choose from on the menu, ranging from entrees such as wood-oven baked eggplant with buffalo mozzarella and tomato sugo, to restaurant specialties such as their signature pappardelle with braised duck and tomato ragout and calamari salad.
We can think few things better than warming up near the wood-fired oven with a pizza and a beer, and after a visit to Pizza e Birra, we’re sure you’ll agree.
