Mahjong Black on Little Collins Street may be smaller than its St Kilda counterpart but however it may differ in size and menu, it counterbalances with elegance and culinary delight.
Teaming distinctive New York styling with smooth service, a contemporary menu and sharp presentation, this restaurant is ready to impress the senses. The two-level interior, is a dramatic statement in black, white and silver and surprisingly gives an instant and clever balance of refined calm, an excellent offset to a tempered and elegant a la carte approach to Cantonese cuisine. The succinct menu is structured around entrees, mains and desserts, it would seem foolish to head to Mahjong Black expecting the expansive menu you often find in Chinese restaurants around town.
Every element has been considered in this space. A wine list created by Dan Sims and the team from The Wine Guide and the thoughtful selection of wines that enhance Cantonese flavours present a list rarely seen in Chinese restaurants in Melbourne. One gets the feeling pretty quickly this isn’t just any Chinese restaurant.
