Ladro has been one of our favourites for a long time, so their second pizzeria is warmly welcomed. Owner/operators Ingrid Langtry and Sean Kierce have extended their pizza empire with a couple of new additions for their Prahran location, such as the Sud pizza, but in general it's the same consistent pizza we return for - the Lazio and the Pizza for Otto in particular.
With double the number of seats (around 100), this location is larger and the menu is accommodating.
There’s a healthy-sized bar area, and a bar menu available all day, serving dishes such as natural oysters, stuffed olives, cotechino sausage, polenta-crumbed sardines and brodo.
The focus on a wood-fired oven menu, which produces that inexplicably good, chewy, robust pizza base as well as the succulent roasted meats. The other thumbprint that is undeniably Langtry and Kierce is in the design of the place (not surprising, considering both were formerly industrial designers). Langtry, also an interior designer, has worked on the entire restaurant from the toilet-roll holder to the light fittings.
The couple are the hands-on owners and operators, with some backing from businessman Frank Van Haandel and Stokehouse general manager Anthony Mussara.
