Dig a Pony based its title on the John Lennon Beatles tune of the same name and attempts to embrace the ethos of the non-linear song. Nothing is as it seems. Throw elements together and watch the magic unfold.

Owners Mike and Hannah Bacarella have never hiccuped since opening the space in 2009 and continue to astound patrons with their brand of Mediterranean tapas. Cuisine from Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco and France features prominently and all servings are designed to be shared and grazed on.

Chew on saganaki as an entrée serve before launching into a Spanish main of chicken levantina – a tender thigh with sauté prunes, olives and capers. Rinse it down with a local vino sourced from Margaret River (WA), or Clare Valley (SA). International sherry and dessert wines work well with your melting chocolate pudding with white chocolate sauce or Spanish churros.

The Dig a Pony menu is littered with vegetarian options, along with gluten-free alternatives. Roll in on a Wednesday evening for ‘Paella Night’, or Thursdays for ‘Tapas for Two’ with a free jug of Sangria on offer. As a heads-up, it’s Spanish-born head chef and long-time tapas guru Luis Naval-Aguilar (Santiago) who presides over the cook-tops, oh-so diligently.
