Stroll through the door of Mazzitelli and you might just feel like you’ve wandered into a restaurant in the heart of Rome. This all-Italian eatery is another impressive venture from Jason M. Jones and Theo Tsapepas of ICKE & IGBY (the group behind Friends of Mine, Porgie + Mr Jones and Snow Pony).

The name Mazzitelli holds sentimental value for Jones – it’s the name of an old childhood friend Louis Mazzitelli, who’s father ‘Patsy’ Mazzitelli introduced Jones to homemade pasta and pickled olives from their backyard. Prior to this experience, Jones had only ever had spaghetti from a can. Needless to say, his love for the Italian way of life grew after he sampled Italian the way it should be.

The overall layout and concept behind Mazzitelli is simple yet effective. Coming for dinner? From 5pm onwards the front bar hosts Aperitivo, which is an Italian tradition that opens a meal (similar to an appetiser). It involves gathering around a bar with a drop of something tasty, picking out a number of antipasto items and getting your tastebuds ready for a feast prepared by head chef Tyrone Folino.

Conversely, if it’s breakfast that gets your heart racing, Mazzitelli offers an array of mouth-watering breakfast options including hot steaming bombolini and fresh porchetta rolls straight out of the oven at 10am every morning.

To accompany your Allpress coffee, there are also other treats including biscotti and house-made pastries.
