The brainchild of restaurateur Raymond Capaldi (also from Hare & Grace), Marmalade and Soul is located on the site of the old Recreation Hotel in North Fitzroy, a pub that’s been given a spit and polish by Capaldi himself.

With head chef Andrew Beddoes back at Marmalade and Soul after a short jaunt at Auction Rooms (and previously of Fenix) the new menu features French and Spanish influences with a strong focus on share plates. Mains include a sirloin served with foie gras, burnt onion and Montpellier butter, a Catalan fish with potato and almond stew, and a French gnocchi with fresh peas, mint and yoghurt. For dessert, try the tarte tatin with calvados crème fraiche, also designed to share.

On weekends, the team from Marmalade and Soul offers picnic baskets filled with goodies all cured and made in house like paté, terrine, sweets as well as sandwiches and fruit. And of course, you can take it to the Edinburgh Gardens nearby and enjoy it al fresco.
