Possibly offering the largest selection of Belgian beer in Melbourne, the orignal Belgian Beer Cafe occupies a quaint bluestone building just off St Kilda road comprising a restaurant and bar, the other is the in the Eureka Tower. Both cater to a wide variety of customers ranging from corporate lunches and after work drinkers and diners, to teachers with red marking pens and slow Sunday afternoon drinkers.

Beer is the name of the game and the detailed menu, at over four pages long, is flanked by an equally impressive wine list. There is also a limited edition beer list and ‘Beerfood’ (food to enhance your beverage of course). The key beer players here are draught beers - Stella Artois, Leffe Brune, Leffe Blonde, Hoegaarden and Belle-Vue Kriek. The food is traditional Belgian fare: hearty and rich offerings of frites, beef burgundy pies and a great charcuterie board to share. The restaurant’s strength lies in its ‘Belgian Classics’ section. Both beer and food are quite reasonably priced and the staff know their beers and are very happy to help the first-timer through the overwhelming menu.

The atmosphere is relaxed and congenial with inside and outdoor seating and live music on Sundays. The cafe also offers a beer course with CAE and hosts film screenings for cold winter nights featuring mainly foreign language films.
