The philosophy behind hospitality whiz Adam Wilkinson’s, St Edmonds, off Prahran’s Greville Street is simple-a place his mates could gather for a good beer and a bite to eat without the hefty price tag and pompous fanfare.

Converted from an old garage, Wilkinson, previous owner of Armadale’s Woodstock and Small World in the CBD, has embraced the honesty of the original space and this is showcased throughout. The old garage roller door remains on the left hand wall, lights are some 50 years old and are those used originally to see under the hood of a car, and old petrol stains mark the now polished concrete floor. Even the denim staff aprons (designed by Scanlan & Theodore no less), are inspired by the overalls worn by garage technicians.

Meals are offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and combine old favourites with new ones. Dine indoors or out and feast on a spanner crab and chili omelette for brekkie or classic calamari for lunch. Happy hour is every day from 4pm-6pm and every Thursday is Big Ballsy Burger night- $20 for a a hearty 200g patty with slow roast tomatoes, Pyengana cheddar, rocket, Japanese mayo and homemade tomato relish.

Fridays and Saturdays a live DJ spins some sweet tunes old school tunes and on Sundays there are live performances by local musician Ali Barter and her friends from 4pm.
