Do not be fooled by Outpost’s tiny size. True to the reputation of its parent cafe, Melbourne specialty coffee stalwart St. Ali, the coffee here is always excellent, and always prepared flawlessly by the well-trained baristas.

Outpost mostly services the takeaway crowd of local office workers and commuters catching early morning city trains at nearby South Yarra station. It can only seat around 15 people on its two tables (one inside, one outside) and various barstools around the joint, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in quality and attention to detail. If you do have more time than it takes to get your takeaway salvation, stop and admire the vintage French stove and the mosaic and pastel green tiles. We also recommend you try their cold drip, a uniquely prepared, cool cup of black coffee that delivers an entirely different set of flavours to your usual espresso.
